Following in the footsteps of Gabrielle and the Sugababes, sultry singer-songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae took to the stage at Longitude Bar to help bring this year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to a close.

Accompanied by a guitarist and keyboardist, the British performer sourced a setlist from her two albums to date – her 2006 eponymous debut and this year’s follow-up The Sea.

Playing to a crowd of roughly a hundred at the Yas Hotel venue in the early hours of Monday morning, Rae’s smiley shyness perfectly complemented her smooth and often sorrowful voice.

As one would expect, tunes from The Sea such as I’d Do It All Again were tinged with grief. An intensely personal recording, it dealt with the death of her husband Jason Rae in 2008, after which the singer took a career break.

More upbeat material included Bob Marley cover Is This Love, and the beautiful acoustic jazz-pop of Like A Star, which scored a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year on its release.

The relaxed crowd finally got on their feet with set closer Put Your Records On, the 31-year-old’s biggest hit so far. Whether she’ll return to lighthearted fare such as this with album number three remains to be seen.
