Fashion season is here. New York Fashion Week starts today, and for the next month, every week a new fashion capital will play host to Fashion Week. From New York it moves to London and then Milan and finally ends in Paris on October 7. By October next spring's fashion agenda will be set.
For the consumer, New York Fashion Week tends to be the most friendly as it sees brands from Banana Republic to Theory take to the ramp. And of course all the All American greats are part of the line-up: Tommy Hilfiger, Oscar de la Renta and Calvin Klein. Klein will close the New York Fashion Week. Adding some new energy new brigade of more urban designers such as Alexander Wang, The Row and fashion's new darling Public School.
It is expected to get off to a stormy start as the weather is not looking very welcoming, and storms are expected on the opening day. Other than that it should be a great week of fashion. Here are some highlights to watch out for:

Givenchy Show, Friday, September 11

Just in time for the opening of its Manhattan flagship, Givenchy will show its collection at New York Fashion Week. This Parisian luxury house, is taking its move to New York, which has a more democratic approach to fashion, very seriously.

For the show, 1200 tickets have been reserved for ordinary people, on a first come first serve basis. Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci is known for his social media approach to fashion, has 940,000 Instagram followers, and has created a special hashtag for its American adventure: #GRTny17.

DKNY, Wednesday, September 16

In the 1990s, Donna Karan's bridge label DKNY with its sporty take on high fashion could do no wrong. Of late DKNY has lost its edge and so new blood has been brought in to give this label a second innings. The brand's creator Donna Karan  recently handed over the reigns to Dao Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne of Public School.

Their debut line will show at this edition of New York Fashion Week. The Public School boys are known for their new age street style and there is a lot of buzz around the former Vogue Fashion Fund and International Woolmark Prize winners. Next Wednesday the question will be answered as to whether DKNY will make a fashion comeback.

The New Jenner on the Block, date unknown

Kris Jenner tries hard to keep herself in the headlines, be it with rather public outings with new boyfriend Corey Gamble or her new figure-hugging style overhaul, and daughter Kendall's modelling career, which was the talk of last season's Fashion Week.
All the Jenners (and for that matter the Kardashians too) better be ready to be upstaged by Caitlyn Jenner at New York Fashion Week. It seems she is the celebrity that every fashion house wants seated in their row one and designers are busy wooing her with dresses and more.

There are also rumours that Caitlyn may even make her runway debut at the Fashion Week. From Vanity Fair cover to fashion catwalk, Caitlyn is the new Jenner on the Block. Caitlyn's first outing to New York Fashion Week is expected to be the most important moment of the event.  sujata@khaleejtimes.com
