The American pays tribute to mentor and good friend Mickelson following the success Down Under
Born Carrie Marie Underwood, the singer, actress and activist was born on March 10, 1983, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of a sawmill worker and an elementary school teacher. Carrie first sang in church when she was just 3 and believe it or not never had any formal singing lessons. After graduating from high school, she attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma majoring in broadcast journalism. During her senior year in 2004, Carrie decided to try out for American Idol - and the rest is history!
Soon after her win, Carrie's debut album Some Hearts quickly went multi-platinum, making it the fastest-selling female country album! Her first single, Inside Your Heaven, hit the top of the Billboard pop charts while her follow-up single, Jesus Take the Wheel, shot to the top of the country charts. The song proved to be a critical success as well, winning Carrie the ACM and CMA awards for Single of the Year, along with Grammys for Best Female Country Vocal Performance and Best New Artist.
Carrie has been the recipient of seven Grammy Awards, ten Billboard Music Awards, fourteen Academy of Country Music Awards, twelve American Music Awards, eight Country Music Association Awards, six Teen Choice Awards, three CMT Artists of the Year awards and seventeen CMT Music Awards, among others. Wow! And if that's not enough, in 2008 when Carrie was 26, she was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry by country star Garth Brooks. Carrie is the youngest member of the famed institution!
Carrie has kept her love life pretty private for most of her career (which we totally respect) but we do know that she publically dated Chace Crawford of Gossip Girl fame in 2007. However, the relationship only lasted a year. Shortly after, she met hockey player Mike Fisher and they married on July 10, 2010 and in September 2014, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together. Their son, Isaiah Michael Fisher, was born on February 27, 2015. Carrie announced her son's arrival via Twitter which we love - better than selling photos of her new born to some magazine!
On November 10, Carrie fell down a flight of stairs outside her home. She was treated for injuries that included a broken wrist, cuts and abrasions on her face which required 40 to 50 stitches. There were rumours that the accident was a story she was telling the media in order to get a face lift (which is nuts given that she's only 35). The story gained momentum when Carrie never shared photos that revealed her complete face on social media. Then, this month Carrie posted a photo of herself that showed some scarring on her face but nothing major and definitely no face lift.
