Muchova beat Sabalenka in a dramatic semifinal match
The team made their debut in the Louis Vuitton Trophy at Auckland and achieved impressive results, a press release said.
The team include skipper and helmsman Gavin Brady and Morgan Larson. The afterguard comprises of Cameron Dunn, Steve Hayles and Italian Flavio Favini, who was a member of the Mascalzone team for the two past America’s Cup campaigns.
After Monday’s race, the Italian team were placed third in the overall leaderboard, behind BMW Oracle Racing and Emirates Team New Zealand.
Gavin Brady, skipper and helmsman of the team, said: “We knew the mathematics going into today, so we knew we had to win those two races to keep control of our own destiny. We had a race where we led from start to finish and another one where we came from behind. It was a very tough way to get the job done but it’s good the teams is starting to build its confidence that we can come from behind.”
Earlier on Sunday, the team members attended a function where Rockport, the official footwear sponsor of the team, launched its new sailing shoe for the team.
The team will wear Rockport’s Hydromotion 2 boat shoe from the Spring 2011 collection as they sail around the world in the competition.
“We as a company have the ideal expertise when it comes to performance in the boat shoe category,” said Michael Rupp, Rockport CEO and President.
“The team is happy with the new Hydromotion 2. This light technical shoe with a great grip is so important, especially on the decks of the boats in the Louis Vuitton Trophy. Rockport knows what it means to be a technical boat shoe.” Brady added.
