HTC ramped up its smartphone offerings on Tuesday as it launched two new models in its mid-tier line, the Desire 10 lifestyle and Desire 10 pro. Both devices come with a 5.5-inch display and feature a high-contrast gold contour design with a soft matte finish, inspired by the Art Deco style of visual arts.
HTC's Desire line has appealed to consumers, thanks to its features and a moderate price point. The Taiwanese company had enjoyed success, especially with the launch of its critically-acclaimed HTC One in 2013. The new mid-range line would help revive sales.
In an exclusive statement to Khaleej Times, HTC's top official in the region said they are confident the new handsets will help boost the brand's positioning in the tough smartphone market.
"The HTC Desire 10 delivers the brilliance customers have come to expect from HTC. Designed to stand out, the brand new metallic gold contour brings elegance and sophistication to this feature-packed device, and is especially appealing to those who wish to have a flagship experience in an appealing package," HTC Middle East and Africa president Nikitas Glykas said.
"The colours and design, along with high-end capabilities like fingerprint sensors and a class-exclusive selfie camera, make this the must-have accessory for the season."
The HTC Desire 10 pro has a specific focus on photography; it has a 20MP main camera, plus a brand-new selfie panorama mode capable of capturing wide-angle shots.
Among other features are a full-HD screen, a fingerprint sensor, up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of expandable storage.
On the other hand, the HTC Desire 10 lifestyle is an even budget-friendlier phone, and is targeted at audiophiles with its HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi Edition - made popular on the HTC 10 - and 24-bit high-resolution audio.
According to an HTC statement, the Desire 10 lifestyle will be rolled out in the Middle East and Africa by the end of September, and it was confirmed to Khaleej Times that it will be available at next month's Gitex Shopper in Dubai. The Desire 10 pro, meanwhile, will hit shelves in November. - alvin@khaleejtimes.com
