The UAE's Joint Aviation Command, or JAC, announced on Tuesday that it has selected AgustaWestland's AW609 TiltRotor for its search and rescue missions.
Delivery of the first three AW609 TiltRotors to the JAC, with three additional options, is expected to start in the 2019 timeframe.
AgustaWestland is an Anglo-Italian multinational helicopter design and manufacturing company, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Finmeccanica. The company provides total rotorcraft capability to its customers worldwide, with the broadest portfolio of latest-generation products across all main weight categories for all commercial/military applications. With manufacturing operations in Italy, the UK, Poland and the US, almost 13,000 employees and an expanding global network of industrial partners, support and service centres.
The JAC will be the launch customer for the search and rescue variant of the AW609 TiltRotors.
"The AW609's unique speed and range characteristics, combined with its ability to hover, will dramatically increase SAR mission capabilities of the UAE's Joint Aviation Command," the JAC Said.
