The Cambridge captain’s 47-ball knock was studded with seven fours and four sixes, and dominated a 110-run stand for the second wicket with Bilal Passela, who played the support role with a useful 28 not out, facing 56 balls and hitting one four, his first scoring shot.

Pankaj Suman, the ADIS captain and opener, stroked 64 and played an anchor role to take his side to a respectable 136 for nine after Cambridge won the toss and elected to field. But his inning was overshadowed by Qazi’s knock.

Valentin Guiraud, the pick of the Cambridge bowling with three for 20 from his five overs, took two early wickets, and his opening ball partner Shaheer Jazil struck with his very first ball to leave ADIS at 16 for three.Salman Zulfiqar, who also took three wickets from his five overs, grabbed two wickets in two overs to reduce them to 52 for five in 11 overs. Suman held the inning together. He hit two fours and faced 65 deliveries. Anson Quadros was the only other batsman to reach double figures, batting at No 9 and left on 11 not out.

Quadros gave his side some hope when he had Shaheer Jazil (11) well caught at backward point by Arvind Ramesh in his first over. But Qazi took charge thereafter, hitting the ADIS bowlers to all corners of the grounds.

Brief scores: Cambridge bt Abu Dhabi Indian by 9 wickets. ADIS 136 for 9 in 25 overs (Pankaj Suman 64, Valentin Guiraud 3-20, Salman Zulfiqar 3-32). Cambridge 137 for 1 in 22 overs (Bilal Passela 28 not out, Moaaz Qazi 85 not out). Man-of-the-match: Moaaz Qazi (Cambridge).
