The summer is officially here and there couldn't be a better time to get creative with your locks. From braving a chop to changing your colour, you'll feel like a new person as soon as you leave the salon. I understand the summer is also the time where you want to be relaxing, so low-maintenance options are key. Think easy haircuts that you can throw into an up-do at a moment's notice or a colour that looks just as good when it's growing out as it did the day you got it.
Chop chop
With the heat and humidity on the rise, do you find your hair tied up in a bun or ponytail more often than not? Then it might be time to opt for a chop. A short textured bob cut to one length, gives an 'undone cool girl' look. It's the perfect option for those with an oval or heart-shaped face. For those looking for something a little longer, but still happy to cut above the shoulders, a modern 70s shag cut can contour and elongate your features, especially if you have a round face.
Go out with a bang
We've all heard horror stories about bangs. Don't let these stop you from opting for a fringe. This cut can completely reinvent your look. I love cutting a low maintenance bang, seen on the likes of Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid, to name but a few. This easy fringe doesn't have to be perfect, it can be swept to one side or parted in the middle for a relaxed vibe. Got a square face? It can help to shape and contour your features too.
Colour craze
Feeling daring? It's time to change up your colour. Baby soft pinks are still a big trend for this season. Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Salma Hayek and Helen Mirren have opted to blush up. I like using pink to add texture to the hair. Working with different shades of the colour throughout your locks brings new dimensions to your look. Soft pastel shades are the best for beginners who have a lighter look. For those with naturally dark hair, I advise opting for a coral colour as it will be easier to achieve without damaging the hair. The results? A rose gold look that matches sun-kissed skin perfectly.
Boho blonde
For those not brave enough (or are in a job with strict rules about hair colour), a boho blonde look may be your best option. It is low-maintenance, so think 'dirty blonde'. I would use a slightly caramel warmer tone of blonde in the hair. Pairing it with a soft root shadow means it even looks good when you are growing it out. Leave the harsher platinum white blonde hair for the winter months. You'll thank me later.
All about accessories
As for accessorising, they are having a moment. From hair clips to slides to bands, there are countless options to take your look to the next level. My favourite at the moment is the headscarf. It's a perfect option for those who are fighting frizz and want a night off and also make for the perfect travel companion. Simply pull your hair back, not too tight and fasten with a tie or clip. Fold the scarf several times till you have your desired thickness and wrap around the head. You can tie it on top or below your ponytail or bun for different looks. If you have a square-shaped face, a headscarf can also help to soften your look.
