Abu Dhabi - Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, and Tourism Malaysia signed a global partnership agreement to boost inbound tourism to Malaysia by leveraging the airline’s global passenger network.

Under the deal, they will put into effect a range of joint marketing activities targeting Malaysia’s leading inbound visitor markets — the UK, the US, Europe (Germany, France and Italy), and the Middle East region (the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait). Research by Tourism Malaysia revealed in 2014 there were more than 1.2 million visits from these key markets, a 10 per cent increase compared to 2013.

Signing the agreement at the Etihad Airways-Alitalia joint pavilion at Expo Milano 2015 were Madam Chong Yoke Har, deputy director-general of planning at Tourism Malaysia, and Andrew Ward, vice-president for marketing of Etihad Airways. For two weeks, Tourism Malaysia will participate in the airline’s pavilion and showcase its travel packages and destinations to attendees through multimedia videos, traditional food sampling and Batik painting.

New cargo service

Meanwhile, Etihad Cargo, the freight division of Etihad Airways, has launched a new service in conjunction with the World Cargo Alliance (WCA), the world’s largest network of independent freight forwarders, and IT provider Worldwide Information Network (WIN).

The platform, which is the first of its kind in the cargo industry, has been launched to provide special rates for selected origins and destinations on the Etihad Cargo network. It applies to WCA members who are also members of Etihad Cargo’s loyalty programme, CargoConnect, and use the WIN e-platform, for all booking and air waybill transactions. In one location, the platform will offer instant pricing for all online Etihad origins and destinations, e-booking, e-air waybill plus track-and-trace. — business@khaleejtimes.com
