Etihad Airways has continued to connect Abu Dhabi with new destinations with new daily non-stop services to Rome and Perth.

A senior delegation from the airline travelled on a maiden flight including senior vice-president executive affairs Hasan Al Hammadi and senior vice-president government and aeropolitical affairs Khaled Al Mehairbi.

“By starting services to Rome, we have strengthened our commitment to Italy and reinforced the close economic and political relationship it shares with the UAE, which is Italy’s leading trade partner in the Mena region,” James Hogan, president and chief executive officer of Etihad Airways, said in a statement on Wednesday.

The schedule of Etihad’s Rome-Abu Dhabi flights offers convenient links to destinations across the Gulf region, Indian subcontinent, Africa, Asia and Australia. In the opposite direction, Abu Dhabi-Rome flights connect to European cities such as Belgrade, Bolzano, Tirana and Zagreb through flights operated by the airline’s equity partners Air Serbia and Etihad Regional.

In addition, Etihad Airways code-share deals on Italian national carrier Alitalia’s services between Abu Dhabi and Rome, and beyond to a wide range of Italian domestic and European cities, including Milan, Bucharest, Sofia, Vienna, Venice, Madrid, Malaga, Budapest, Malta and Barcelona.

Australian network

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, is Etihad Airways’ fourth Australian gateway alongside Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. The new daily flights bring to 351 the total number of weekly services the airline offers between Australia and Abu Dhabi.

Hogan said Perth was a strategically important addition to Etihad Airways’ Australian and global network.
