Workshop on GCC reforms

DUBAI — The Dubai-based Gulf Research Centre (GRC), in cooperation with Washington-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, is holding the second workshop on political reforms in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Dubai today and tomorrow.

The closed-door event — The Experience of Political Reform in the GCC States: Evaluation and Analysis — will be attended by regional and international scholars and experts, who will discuss recent developments in the region and their impact on the overall process of political reform.

Relief work

DUBAI — The joint relief committee of the Pakistani community is focusing on rehabilitation and reconstruction of the quake-hit areas of Pakistan.

The joint relief committee plans to construct quake-resistant housing projects, water purification plants, maternity clinics, infant care units and school clinics in the areas of the country that are affected by the October 8 earthquake.

The committee said that till now, they have airlifted 760 tonnes of relief goods worth Dh9.2 million.

The committee is organising an Urdu mushaira on November 24, another programme on November 26 and a charity show in December.
