UAEU gets RAK Terry Fox Run proceeds

RAS AL KHAIMAH — His Highness Shaikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on Tuesday handed over the proceeds from the second annual RAK Terry Fox Run to the UAE University in Al Ain in the presence of Kris Panday, Canadian Consul-General in Dubai, at a function held at Al Dhait Palace here.

Shaikh Saud handed over a cheque for Dh102,405 which was collected at the RAK Terry Fox Run held on March 4 to a delegation of senior professors from the UAE University to support cancer research projects currently underway in the university.

The delegation from UAE University included Prof Mohamed Yousif Hasan Baniyas, Vice-Provost and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences; Prof Frank Branicki, Chair, Department of Surgery; and Prof Sehamuddin Galadari, Assistant Dean for Research at the UAE University. Shaikh Saud congratulated the RAK Terry Fox Run committee for the successful organisation of the event which had witnessed the participation of over 1,200 people.

The Canadian Consul-General thanked Shaikh Saud for his patronage and presence during the second RAK Terry Fox Run. “The RAK Terry Fox Run this year has been a great success both in terms of public participation as well as for the funds generated in support of cancer research in the UAE. We are very impressed by the level of cooperation the organising committee received from the various RAK Government departments,” Panday said.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Vice-Chairman of the RAK Economic Development Department, and several officials were present.
