An Emirati and a Syrian succumbed to fatal injuries received from road accidents on Shaaml road.
The two died in separate incidents.
Official sources told Khaleej Times on Thursday that an Emirati young man, in his twenties, was run over by a light car on the Shaml-Rams road close to the Youth Garage, in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
"The victim, identified as Jamal Mohammed Al Ghunmeer Al Shamili, was blamed for the mishap as he proved to have crossed the road from a non-pedestrian crossing area."
Funeral prayers were offered at the Shaml Grand Mosque, and the corpse of the deceased was buried at the Balhon cemetery, Shaml area, Ras Al Khaimah, according to eye witnesses.
The driver also shared responsibility for being inattentive on the road, they added. "Had he being attentive enough, he would have been able to avoid collision with the victim who could not make it."
As per the forensic report, the deceased sustained critical injuries and fractures all over his body. "He also sustained excessive bleeding and failed to respond to the first aids provided on the spot."
Col Ahmed Saeed Al Sam Al Naqbi, head of traffic engineering at the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police, said they have repeatedly alerted all drivers to be always focused on the steering wheel.
"Road users have also been advised to cross the road from designated pedestrian crossings," he said, stating that the traffic department has referred a number of proposals to the ministry of infrastructure development to add more flyovers and subways on the Nakheel-Shaml road.
With a reported rise in run-over accidents on the roads of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, new speed humps are also planned at hotspots to curb speeding and reckless drivers.
"The new speed humps are to be built on the Corniche Al Qawasim road, the Shaikh Mohammed bin Salem road downtown, as well as a number of busy and arterial roads."
A Syrian resident was killed in another accident early on Thursday. "The man was killed after he was run over by a speeding vehicle on the Shaml-Rams road at the Saadi supermarket.
"The erring driver ran away after the mishap whereas the victim was shifted to the morgue of the Saqr hospital for burial by relatives."
