Brigadier Saeed Humaid, Head of Ajman Police Stations, told Khaleej Times that the haul included dangerous explosives banned in the country and others that must be imported only by firms after obtaining a licence from the authority concerned. These explosives were supposed to be used only during big public events under the supervision of Civil Defence officials.

Brigadier Humaid said the CID officers in Al Nuaimia police station had received a tip-off that the duo had been distributing firecrackers in outlets illegally. The officers laid a trap and caught them red-handed.

During interrogation, the first accused, S.K., said he had been buying the crackers from Dubai and selling them in Ajman.

Brigadier Humaid urged the public to cooperate with the authorities in their crackdown on those who sell firecrackers. Brigadier Humaid blamed the smuggling of dangerous items into the country to the lack of adequate monitoring at the ports as well as greediness of local traders.
