One of them, a 33-year-old sergeant, was found guilty of tampering with the registration papers of as many as 17 vehicles of a car rental company. The cars had been hired by another company owned by a 40-year-old UAE national, who is a former employee of the Vehicular Registration Department of Abu Dhabi.
Both the men had conspired to commit the forgery, as part of which, the 33-year-old sergeant would first forge the documents of 17 BMW cars of 2008 model registered with the department, and later transfer the ownership of the cars in the name of his wife so that he could export them abroad illegally.
The 17 BMW cars are together worth around Dh13 million.
The 40-year-old former employee has confessed to selling four cars which were later seized by the police. -
