UAE-based teenager Tanisha Crasto has impressed her coaches and peers with her badminton skills, and continues to do so at the Gopichand Academy for badminton in Hyderabad. Earlier, she would compete within the region, playing matches in the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain. However, finding herself exhausting the competition, she soon shifted to India to play in the national circuit.
Her father, Clifford Crasto, continues to be a monument of strength and support for his daughter while she's away. Despite being in another country, the family is able to keep in touch and continue giving her support. "With BOTIM, we are able to see her and talk to her everyday; Tanisha calls us after all of her sessions," he said.
Tanisha's progress has been phenomenal, describes a proud Clifford Crasto. "Her progress has been so positive that she has been shifted to play and practice with the seniors", he said warmly. She is able to maintain her focus and determination with the national coach's help.
When asked about what she misses most about Dubai, Crasto responds that she misses her family, her schoolmates, and her classes. "The style of living in Dubai with all the comforts is very different from the academy", he says, pointing out the struggles of living alone. However, he is grateful for the discipline and independence she is learning at the Academy.
For Tanisha, a normal day at the Academy involves 3 training sessions. Her day begins at 5am, with the first training session from 5:30 to 7am. After a break for breakfast, the next session is from 9am to 12:30pm.
The final session is in the evening, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, with an early dinner afterwards to make sure they are fresh for the next morning. Despite such a rigorous training schedule, Tanisha has managed to maintain her positive nature and is grateful for the teachings and lessons received at a prestigious badminton academy.
Crasto attributes Tanisha's success to focus and determination in following her dreams. "For Tanisha, everything she does is for badminton. She loves being with her friends and watch movies, but only on days when she takes a break from badminton." For him, the key term is discipline. "If you are organised, then everything is achievable", he advised.
Crasto emphasised the pride and joy he feels whenever he sees Tanisha on the court or on stage. "She has her dreams and as parents we are guiding her on the right path. Our daughter makes us proud every time we see her play or stand on the podium. With the right guidance and support, we can help her reach the top."
Despite the several obstacles that still stand in her way, Tanisha is confident that she will reach the top, and continues to receive undivided support and love from her friends and family back home. With the right training and mindset, she is sure to participate (and win) in the Olympics and bring home the gold medal for her nation.
