Dominating the skyline as it approached the airport from the Airport Expo side, the double-decker Airbus A380 was unmistakable.

Aviation fans outside the airport shouted with glee and waved excitedly at the plane as it majestically dropped height and circled over the airport for a short show before landing.

Eleven-year-old Dhanin Anoop Asarpota who aspires to be a pilot, was among those who waited patiently in the sweltering heat for at least an hour at the Airport Expo parking lot to get a glimpse of the Emirates airline's latest acquisition.

'I want to become a pilot and I love planes. That is the reason why I am here to watch the A-380 land,' said the bespectacled Grade VII pupil. 'This is a superjumbo, double-decker plane and I have seen it only on television. It is very exciting that we (Dubai) now have one of our own. I wish I can fly this plane when I grow up,' said Dhanin.

Nishika, another student who had come with her family, said she hope to travel in it some time.

Marlin, Karen and Kalina Pupp said they had heard about the plane for many days and were intrigued by it.

'It was really exciting to watch it.

'We have been hearing about it for so long and we wanted to see what is different about this. It is great Dubai owns such an aircraft since it is fuel efficient,' said businessman Marlin Pupp.

A few people had also taken time off to watch the superjumbo landing. Anand CK, an employee of an FMCG firm, observed, 'Watching it land is such a pleasure and the Airport Expo is a good viewing point.'

The Airbus A380 was delivered in Hamburg, Germany to the airline this week.
