Sultan opens venue of Arab Photographers Union

SHARJAH - His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, commended today the vital role the Arab Photographers’ Union plays sharpening skills and talent of Arab youths in order to produce gifted generations to enrich this genre of art. Sheikh Sultan made his remarks following opening the venue of the executive office of the Union in Sharjah.

“There will be a permanent premises at Sharjah Arts District which will house an art and photography academy and a gallery for showcasing works of most celebrated Arab innovators,” Sheikh Sultan said.

At a meeting with members of the board and office of the Union, Sheikh Sultan told them that he is personally interested in this fine art and he owned thousands of photos chronicling the history of Sharjah since 1860.

He announced that Sharjah would host a grand photo exhibition for Arab photographers.

Founded in April 1999 in Baghdad, the Union has about 5000 members and works to ensure the right to freedom of expression of photographers and their safety.
