Street naming to lead to unified postal code

DUBAI — Members of the Dubai Street Naming and Numbering Committee held a meeting yesterday with officials of Emirates Post to discuss implementation of the proposed street naming and numbering system which will help introduce a unified postal code system throughout the country.

The meeting was attended by Abdullah AbdulRahim, Director of the Planning and Survey Department at Dubai Municipality, and members of the committee from the municipality and the Roads and Transport Authority.

Emirates Post was represented in the meeting by Mohammed Ahmed bin Shukr, Assistant Director General for Zonal Affairs, Mansour Mohammed bin Shaikh Mansour, Assistant Director General for Investment and Projects Affairs, and Eng. Mohammed Jassim Al Dhoukhi, Director of Enquiries and Maintenance Department.

The meeting discussed ways of introducing a countrywide postal code system which will help facilitate door-to-door delivery of postal materials. The system can go in parallel with the street numbering project. Both parties agreed to continue to work for applying the appropriate methodology in this regard. Other concerned government departments in the country and the Secretariat General of UAE Municipalities will be contacted in order to facilitate the proposed system.
