The three-day retreat, which will begin tomorrow, will review in detail the 26 strategic plans submitted to the cabinet last month as part of the third phase of the UAE Government Strategy. Heads of federal authorities will present key elements of their strategies, programmes and target timelines, while detailing how their respective agendas will contribute towards achieving the overall objective of the government strategy.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, said yesterday: “The meeting is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that all federal entities are fully geared up to meet the deadline of January 1, 2008, when the government strategy will be put into action. The finalisation of the strategic plans by all ministries and federal authorities, in less than a year, is a remarkable achievement.

“Under the leadership of Shaikh Mohammed and with the concerted efforts of the federal authorities, the government strategy will raise the bar of performance excellence in governance and sustainable development for the benefit of the entire community.”

Al Gargawi said the federal authorities have drafted their strategies in record time, complying with Shaikh Mohammed’s directive to finalise the plans of all entities by end of 2007.

He added: “The government strategy will synchronise the strategic planning efforts of various government agencies to create a healthy environment that can vividly translate the vision of the UAE leadership for the future of the country.”

Being organised in an informal setting, the meeting will be the third in a series of retreats held by the UAE Government.

Chaired by Shaikh Mohammed, the first retreat meeting was held at the Bab Al Shams resort in mid-February and saw cabinet ministers putting the final touches to the government strategy.

The second cabinet retreat at Fujairah in July, also chaired by Shaikh Mohammed, reviewed strategic plans of individual ministries, their programmes and time-lines.

The government strategy, unveiled by Shaikh Mohammed in April, marks a turning point in the operations of government entities. It aims to achieve a balanced and sustainable development and high standard of living for the citizens through initiatives that promote economic growth and focus on international best practices in all sectors.
