Speaking to Khaleej Times Ammir, an official from Al Ameer Bakery said that the prices of the bakery products had been increased due to a hike in the prices of flour, wheat and dairy products which are being used in the manufacture.
The price of bread has been increased by 50 fils, as bread-making does not require too many raw materials. One kg of bread now is being sold for Dh2.50, while one kg of cake, cookies and other items is being sold for Dh 3.50.
“Our customers do not find it expensive, they are still buying our products without any complaints,” he added. Ageed Al Hashims, an official from Rabie Lebanon in Ajman said: “We did not increase the price of the bakery products, since we sell one kg of bread for Dh2.50. The other products which requires a great deal of raw materials is being sold for Dh2.50, and Dh3.50 per Kg.
Baha Nassir from Al Arz Bakery said that the management of his bakery had made a decision not to increase the price of its products but it might do so in the future. In his bakery, a pack of five pieces of shami bread is being sold for Dh2.50, while six pieces in a pack of samoon bread is being sold for one dirham.
Other kinds of bakery items like cookies are being sold by kg weight and the determination of the prices is based on the variety. An official from the Al Mukhtar Bakery said that the mangement of his bakery had raised the price of bread due to increase in the prices of raw materials which is being used in the manufacture of such products. He refused to give more deatails.
An official from Al Reem Bakery said that they had increased the prices of bakery products according to the demands of the local market. Prices of all food items has been increased during the holy month of Ramadan and the prices of materials including gas, butter, milk, wheat and flour had become very expensive. “If we buy such material at a higher cost and sell bakery products cheap we will lose out on our profits and fail to make little money out this business,” he added.
Officials of Golden Loaf and Modern Bakery refused to comment on the issue. Mohammed Abdulla, grocery keeper said that he had dealt with Al Reem and Al Safa Bakery in Sharjah and they had both increased 15 fils in the price of small size of shami bread. It used be Dh1.80 for one bread pack which contained six pieces and now they sell it for Dhs 2 for the same pack. There is no increase in the price of slice bread, its being sold at Dh 1 per pack.
