Buildings in Ajman will get unique geo-coordinates as the emirate becomes the first to extend the Dubai Municipality's smart navigation and addressing application, Makani.
The Dubai Municipality and the Ajman Municipality and Planning Department have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for implementing the Makani application in Ajman.
The Makani digital address app uses 10-digit geo-coordinates for each building's entrance to give the precise location.
Abdul Hakim Malik, director of geographical information system department at the Dubai Municipality said the agreement will ensure that the hi-tech system will be applied in all government and private sectors, and will be made available for individuals and tourists.
"The system will be made available on all smart phones and smart devices in the future," he said in a media statement.
"Later, we will cooperate with other emirates interested in implementing the system, according to the agreement made between the members of the national committee for unifying the addressing on country's level and Makani serves as complementary to it nationwide."
Under the MoU, the Dubai Municipality authorises its Ajman counterpart the right to use Makani, the design of its plates, and data concerning the emirate of Ajman in the system.
Dubai Municipality will offer training and technical consultations to enable those concerned at Ajman Municipality to implement the system successfully.
The Ajman department of municipality and planning will furnish Dubai municipality with the updated geographical locations of the landmarks in the emirate, to be used as part of the Makani app.
Ali Mal Allah Al- Shehhi, director of Planning and Survey at the Department of Municipality and Planning in Ajman said the department is proud of the strategic partnership with the Dubai Municipality, which it has cemented by boosting the cooperation and exchange of expertise and information related to the Makani project. - reporters@khaleejtimes.com
