Significant rise
in e-gate users

DUBAI — The Dubai International Airport saw a significant rise in the number of passengers arriving and departing from the country through the e-gates in the last 10 months, according to a senior official.

“As many as 2,970,145 passengers have passed through the e-gates here this year so far, comapred to 2,752,764 in 2009,” said Major General Mohammad Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department.

Later, while touring the electronic services sector on November 24, Major General Marri said that 89,120 e-gate cards have been issued during the same period. As part of cooperation with the government bodies, the Dubai immigration department processed 644,420 medical check-up transactions electronically with the ministry of health. “Some 315,061 transactions have been electrically handled with the ministry of labour,” he said

About 2,071,000 people have surfed the department’s website. “Some 2,747,392 electronic services have been accomplished while the electronic forms services rendered this year hit 2,592,515,” he said. Also, 617,024 passengers benefited from the electronic border services.
