Sharjah Roads Pavement project to be completed by 2007

SHARJAH — The Sharjah Roads Pavement Project, being executed currently in various parts of the emirate by the Sharjah Municipality, in coordination with the Department of Public Works, is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of 2007, according to Abdullah Al Amri, Director-General of the Sharjah Municipality.

The project is part of the municipality’s strategic development plan of this year. The engineers and supervisors of the Public Works Section are working hard to accomplish the work of the pavement of sandy roads in all parts of the emirate on the scheduled time.

Currently, the workers are working on flattening of the hilly and sandy roads as the first phase of the project and to prepare for the second phase which includes the pavement. But, in some areas the flattening of the roads was completed after the Department of Public Works assigned road construction contractors to conduct its work of construction. The works being carried out by such companies is under the follow-up and supervision of the Department of Public Works.

Al Amri added that the Government Building Maintenance Unit of the municipality has an annual programme, which aims at conducting general maintenance to all government buildings, departments, public library, clinics, fountains, and the Central Souq, in various part of the emirate. The maintenance service to these government properties will be conducted periodically. The project also includes paving and adjusting the 7,8,10 and 12 industrial areas roads with a total cost of Dh22 million.

The Sharjah Municipality is implementing a a number of vital projets costing Dh370 million. Al Amri noted that the budget was approved by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who mainly aims at offering the Sharjah residents the best level of services.
