Sharjah emergency squads start fire safety inspection

SHARJAH — The emergency inspection committee set up by Sharjah Police for ensuring fire safety in commercial, industrial as well as residential areas, yesterday started carrying out its tasks in the emirate.

The tasks of the committee which was formed three month ago include the monitoring and inspection to ensure that all the companies are abiding by the fire safety and protection regulation as well as implementing the proper fire safety procedures.

The committee’s responsibility is also to issue violation and warn the owner of the errant companies by giving them 48 hours to rectify the situation and ensure safety for the labourers.

The committee during its inspection campaigns since it was formed in August, has warned 582 companies most of which are located in the industrial area No 1.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brigadier Salih Al Mutawa, Director General of Sharjah Police said that the committee had contributed a great deal in reducing the fire accidents in industrial areas, as it forced all the companies to oblige by safety rules and maintain proper fire protection equipments in the premises of the company and the labours camps.

The Committee set up under the instruction of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has also started its inspection tasks in residential areas in Sharjah to ensure that the building owners are maintaining fire protection equipments and emergency exist to ensure safety for residents and reduce loss of the properties and lives.

Brig Gharib Shabban, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defenece and the Head of the Committee said that the committee has achieved its objective in preventing fire and forcing the companies to be responsible in ensuring safety and security at work place. The Committee, beginning this week has started to conduct its inspection and monitoring works in residential areas to curb violations that cause fire accidents.
