Speaking to Khaleej Times, Al Waleed bin Butti, Director General of Sewa, said: “The prices of the natural gas which will be included in the monthly bill of the water and electricity would remain the same.” However, landlords may face problems due to the hike in prices of internal connections, he said, clarifying the hike in installation charges is due to high cost of the copper metal used for laying connections.

Tarik Dimas, Head of the Directorate of Natural Gas, said the Sewa cannot determine the prices of internal connections as they are decided by the private companies.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Natural Gas affiliated to Sewa has started executing the project of installing natural gas pipelines in all parts of Sharjah.

According to an official, the directorate has almost completed the main connections of natural gas in residential, industrial and commercial areas. The internal connections from the main cables to the building is the landlords’ responsibility. The Sewa would make it mandatory for all landlords to connect their buildings to the natural gas pipeline. Tenants would not be allowed to use the LPG cylinders once the gas pipeline is in place.
