However, the official said the authority is still not making the cards mandatory for any transactions. “We know there is already a lot of panic among the people and we don’t want to create more chaos, that is the reason we have not made the ID cards mandatory for our transactions as yet,” said Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA’s Licensing Agency.
He said the RTA is in touch with the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) and has communicated its stand to the authorities. “We have made our stand clear to them and any decision in the future would be taken in consultation with the EIDA.”
He also assured people that the RTA has no plans to make ID cards mandatory for its transaction in the near future, “but any change in plans would be announced through right channels beforehand”.
