The General Department of Criminal Investigation busted the gang in January following several complaints. The complainants said the gang members would pour some oil-like liquid on one of the back tyres of the vehicle of the targeted victim. When the person returned after withdrawing money and gets ready to move, one of the suspects would knock on the window telling the victim that there’s an oil leak in his car. As he gets out to check, the robbers would snatch the money and flee. The police had laid traps near banks to nab them. On January 15, the police noticed an Asian moving suspiciously along the Khalid Bin Walid Street. The police detained him and one of the complainants identified him later.

The police found that the man was deported in 2006 after he was arrested for theft. His accomplice was arrested on January 23.
