Flies have infested some residential areas and public places in the emirate, posing health hazards to people.

“Flies are everywhere. As we know, flies spread many dangerous diseases, some of which are life-threatening if not treated in the early stages,” said a Twalib A., a resident of Nakheel.

Some residents attributed the spread of flies in various parts of Ras Al Khaimah to the changes in the temperatures. The low temperature levels being experienced these days are favourable for their breeding and spreading.

Adnan Regal, an Egyptian expatriate living in Khuzam, flies are seen in some residential areas these days, especially around garbage bins. Some of them enter the houses. “Earlier, you could hardly see any flies around. I have started seeing flies around the place after the change in the temperatures. They are a threat to our lives as they can move from the dirty places to the houses, and reach uncovered foods and kitchen utensils,” added Regal.

One visitor who was recently in a public park in Ras Al Khaimah also complained about the flies. The flies have become a nuisance, spoiling their leisure time.

Commenting on the menace of flies in the emirate, an official from the Environment and Health Department at RAK Municipality, who did not want to be named, said that they are aware of the problem but it is not very serious.
