Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) has announced the opening of registrations for the fifth International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2016) themed "Citizens for Prosperity".
The annual forum will be held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, from March 20-21 at Expo Centre Sharjah.
Registrations are currently underway for the different categories of engagement in IGCF 2016.
All those interested in government communication from within or outside the UAE and keen to attend the event are invited to register online at www.sgci.ae.
To register as volunteers, candidates must be enrolled at higher education institutions in the UAE and comply with the conditions stipulated by the organising committee. Volunteers must attend training sessions prior to the event and familiarise themselves with the forum's agenda and details, as well as the names and designations of the speakers headlining different sessions. Selected volunteers will be required to receive VIP guests and speakers and accompany them throughout their visit to the IGCF, responding accurately to their enquiries on IGCF and the emirate of Sharjah.
Registration is also open for female participants looking to attend a special session titled "The Woman Citizen" on day one of IGCF 2016 that will be headlined by Her Highness Shaikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.
Open exclusively to women, the session will address a number of topics, including government communication, role of women in the community and women and children education. It will also explore mechanisms to step up women's participation in socio-economic and humanitarian initiatives towards strengthening the foundations of sustainable development.
Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of SMC, said: "IGCF has emerged as a platform that showcases best practices in government communication from across the world. It is a truly unique initiative in the Arab world and the wider region. We are pleased to open registrations for all interested participants. We wish to reinforce the global nature of IGCF and welcome experts, students and journalists to attend and benefit from the impactful conversations."
Encouraging volunteers to apply in large numbers, he added: "We hope that the forum in its fifth consecutive year will enhance the capabilities and competencies of young university students in this important field. This opportunity will give them the exposure they need to actively organise major events, and understand the rules of protocol while interacting with high-level dignitaries. In addition, connecting with world-renowned leaders and communication experts will significantly boost their self-confidence and broaden their horizons."
A unique platform in the Arab region, the International Government Communication Forum is an important global event that convenes decision-makers, experts and stakeholders in government communication from around the world. IGCF aims to raise important issues and discuss communication-specific trends in order to develop recommendations and resolutions that can help governments and people involved in the field of government communication to enhance their performance and scope of work. The forum seeks to achieve greater convergence in the relationship between governments and the public to ensure sustainable development.
