Recruiters eyeing energetic Emiratis

DUBAI — Government jobs hold their charm on young Emiratis looking for flexible work hours. Companies, on the other hand, are seeking tech-savvy and energetic nationals with good communica-tion skills and are open to doing different tasks at the workplace.

The mood at Careers UAE 2012, which was inaugurated on Monday by Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, was upbeat, with nationals having sev-eral job options to choose from across sectors and firms.

Candidates who possess advanced communication and soft skills have a better chance at finding a job of their choice, said companies at the exclusive event for Emiratis. Eighteen-year-old Alya Majid, a first year Business student at Dubai Woman’s College said she wants to pursue a career in human re-sources. “It’s not difficult for us to get jobs now.

I prefer a government job because the work timings in the sector is more flexible.” Jamal Khalifa Lootah, senior director, National Recruitment and Development, Human Re-sources and Shared Services for du, said the company currently has 100 positions vacant for fresh graduates.

He noted that there has been a positive change in the candidates who come looking for jobs. “Previously, the first thing they would enquire about was the salary being offered; now they want to know of growth opportunities within the firm.’’ news@khaleejtimes.com
