The Ras Al Khaimah police have nabbed an Asian gang involved in forging credit cards.
Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the RAK Police,on Monday said the criminal investigations department of the organised crimes section has been alerted about the gangster.
"The gangsters, all Asians, proved to have scanned, copied, and forged a number of credit cards, and ill-using the stolen details of valid cards in buying jewels and reselling them against low price."
Col Abdullah Ali Mankhas, Director of the CID Department at RAK Police, said the CID men have been informed by undercover agents about the gangsters' suspicious activities.
"The five Asian suspects have illegally used counterfeited credit cards in buying jewels from a number of gold shops."
Armed with the Public Prosecution's permission, the CID men put the five suspects under close surveillance, and tracked them down, he added.
"The gangsters were later detained in their accommodation where the sophisticated electronic devices, laptops, scanners, and printers they used in their crimes were seized."
The duplicated credit cards used in the crime were also found in the gang's hideout, Col Mankhas stated.
"All credit cards holders need to be careful about their belongings," he urged. "The same applies to shopkeepers who have to be attentive and protect themselves against fraudsters, and alert the bank and police about any illegal transactions or debits."
