Queen Komal lauds UAE women role in uplift

ABU DHABI — Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah, Queen of Nepal, has praised the role of UAE national women in various walks of life.

Queen Komal, who is on a five-day visit to the country, voiced her comments yesterday, while touring the different centres of the UAE Women’s Union (GWU) headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

She lauded the continuous efforts of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairperson of the GWU, in empowering Emirati women and encouraging them to keep in pace with international developments in different social, cultural and scientific fields.

Queen Komal, was briefed on the objectives of establishing the Union and the women’s associations under its membership, namely the Abu Dhabi Women’s Association, Dubai Women’s Association, Sharjah Union Women’s Association, Umm Al Mo’mineen Women’s Association in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah Women’s Association. She also got acquainted with the activities undertaken by the different centres of the GWU via a video show.

Queen Komal, expressed her admiration for the activities and responsibilities of the GWU, especially its affiliate novel offices; Family Reconciliation Office, Training Office and National Graduate Employment Office.

Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, GWU’s Director, said the visit was a great opportunity to enhance cooperation with the Kingdom of Nepal in various fields that could serve women’s issues.

“Geographical boundaries no more hinder the progress of women worldwide. That is why we try to strengthen our relations with different nations in the best interests of women,” said Mrs Al Suwaidi.

She attributed the achievements of national women in various social, economic, educational and health sectors to the “honest efforts and strong belief of Shaikha Fatima in the emancipation of women.”
