Pregnant woman's body lies unclaimed in Sharjah

SHARJAH — The body of the pregnant Asian woman who died in a traffic accident on Al Ittihad Road on Monday has not yet been claimed by any family member or relative.

She died after a speeding car knocked her down. She was not carrying any documents that could help identify her.

"Until today none of her family members, relative or even friends have showed up at the police station to claim the body," said Major Khaled Suliman, Head of the Traffic Section at Al Buhaira Police Station, yesterday.

Major Suliman said the police were making efforts to establish the identity of the woman. Her mobile number and memory card were destroyed in the accident and the police couldn't manage to retrieve any number. Nor is there a 'missing person' complaint lodged with any of the police stations.

The police, meanwhile, have decided to refer the case to Public Prosecution and the driver involved in the accident was still in police custody.
