Pope Francis, supreme head of the Catholic Church, has accepted an invitation to visit the UAE. The date of the visit will be decided later after mutual coordination, but all arrangements are being made by the two countries.
The invite was delivered to the Pope in June by UAE officials.
The Vatican has sent a letter indicating the Pope's willingness to visit the UAE, sources confirmed to Khaleej Times.
Earlier in June, Minister of State for Tolerance Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi delivered to the Pope an invite from the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to visit the UAE. The invitation emphasised religious tolerance and shared values of humanity that bind all peoples to live in peace, cooperation and harmony.
Shaikha Lubna affirmed that the invitation would further promote the culture of dialogue, with a theme that all are bound by tolerance, co-existence and respect for values.
Shaikha Lubna referred to the vital role of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish tolerance and friendship, cooperation and love.
She noted that the government took all practical initiatives that made the UAE an incubator for peace, and the cradle of dialogue, understanding, co-existence and harmony. "This is demonstrated by the co-existence of more than 200 nationalities in the UAE in security, peace and prosperity."
