He was addressing the opening session of the three-day International Association of Public Transport (UITP) 1st Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Congress.

Al Tayer said these high class buses, all of which would be purchased by 2009, would be equipped with the latest technologies such as voice announcement of bus stops, passenger counting system, bus-positioning linked with RTA control centre, and internal and external display monitors.

Following this deal, the number of buses operated by RTA will increase to 2,500 in 2009, providing public transport services in all areas of Dubai as well as providing feeder service to Dubai Metro stations. The Congress is being organised by the RTA in association with UITP. It’s held under the theme “Towards a smooth public transport journey”.
