Gergely Boganyi will be performing at the Park Rotana Hotel, Abu Dhabi at 7.30pm.

All collections from the event will be handed over to the Special Care Centre (SCC), Donate A Brick campaign, which is collecting funds for a new building for children.

Tickets are available from Park Rotana, Beach Rotana, for Dh200 for adults and Dh50 for children.

The SCC has accordingly set out to construct a new purpose built campus which at full capacity will enrol 420 students from early detection and diagnosis to adulthood and independence. It will be one of the first fully accessible buildings in the UAE, said Isabelle Le Bon-Poonoosamy, executive board member of the SCC.

To raise the necessary funds to build the new premises, Good Heart, the SCC’s fundraising arm, has launched the Donate A Brick campaign — Dh5 for a brick to collect five million bricks, Poonoosamy said.

Sports Day

Children from the SCC showed their skills at their annual Sports Day held at the Kerala Social Centre here last Wednesday.

The Sports Day was a chance for the children with special needs to showcase their talents. Educationally, such activities provide the children with opportunities to work together as a team and feel a sense of pride and spirit in their achievements, said Poonoosamy.

The Sports Day is also a wonderful way to involve the Special Care Centre in the community with many local residents coming along and supporting the children’s efforts, she said.

The Exiles motorcycle club donated Dh10,000 to the centre. Students from Gems School, Abu Dhabi Indian School, French School, Australian School and the Al Noor Centre for Special Needs also attended the event and cheered on SCC students.— anwar@khaleejtimes.com
