A project has been launched to add colour to the dusty walls of Pakistan's Peshawar city, a media report said on Friday.

The Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and the culture department launched the project "Rang De Peshawar" on Thursday to create a pleasant and colourful environment in the provincial capital, Dawn online reported.

Under the "Rang De Peshawar" project, the walls from Phase-III, Hayatabad to Town Chowk would be painted and coloured with various designs and paintings.

Famous artists, graphic designers, painters and civil society members, students and teachers of the province would take part in the event. It would be a week-long activity.

Various designs to be painted on the walls have been approved by a selection committee. The students of fine arts and experts have prepared these designs.

The selection committee included famous artists, designers, architects and professionals from the province. The committee had selected the designs through a consensus.

During the first phase of the "Rang De Peshawar" initiative, 10 walls would be painted while in the second phase most of the walls in the city would be covered.

The project would be extended to the rest of the province in the third phase.

Speaking on the occasion, Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, the managing director of TCKP, said that the project was part of the beautification of the city.
