Mansour Al Shahat, Head of Media Relations at the Abu Dhabi Centre of Care and Rehabilitation (ADCCR), said that ADCCR signed a renewable one year contract with the Dubai Media City-based channel to produce and provide the programme.

“We have started shooting some of the serials to be shown on the channel,’’ he said.

He was talking to Khaleej Times on Wednesday at the sixth Open Day for children with special needs, organised by Zayed Organisation for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs and Minor Affairs (ZOHC) in the Al Mafraq area.

Al Shahat said the serial will handle issues which parents of children with special needs find difficult to handle. “The 45-minute programme will be shown daily,” he explained.

“The programme will provide easy-to-understand material for parents and children,” he added.

Haya Abdullah bin Hamad, Director of ADCCR, said the centre has prepared a future plan with the Abu Dhabi Education Council to integrate its students into public schools as it will give them the chance to learn new skills from other students.

She said that there were 6,000 children with special needs in the UAE according to the statistics of 2003.

“We concentrate on the activities such as art, music, sports that allow us to teach the children through the activities”, she said,.
