"The project is part of the civic body's strategic plans to protect environment, public health and safety and increase the percentage of areas linked with the city's main drainage network to 100 per cent. The project also aims to reduce the percentage of sewage water transported by heavy tankers to just five per cent by 2011," Lootah said.

He added that 40 per cent of the work has been completed so far.
