Nazek pledges to take forward Hariri's work

DUBAI — Nazek Al Hariri, widow of Rafiq Al Hariri, said yesterday that she would strive to take forward the exemplary work done by her late husband in the field of humanitarian work.

Nazek, who was here to receive the Shaikh Rashid Humanitarian Personality Award for 2004, given posthumously to her husband, made the comments after visiting the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre (RPTC). She was accompanied by her son Fahad Al Hariri and daughter Hind Al Hariri. The family was received by Shaikh Jumaa bin Maktoum bin Jumaa Al Maktoum, Member of the Board of Directors of Rashid Centre and Mariam Osman, Director of RPTC.

Speaking to Khaleej Times after the family's visit, Shaikh Jumaa said: "I have no words to express our gratitude to the Hariri family for visiting the Centre. The visit should open the doors for cooperation in the field of humanitarian aid."

He also pointed out that Al Hariri was selected for the award for his great achievements in raising $2 billion in two decades for humanitarian services.

Praising RPTC for the role it played, Nazek said she will continue to push Al Hariri's philosophy with regard to social integration and human development. She also spoke about the special relation Al Hariri enjoyed during his lifetime with the UAE which was evident from his participation in several conferences and fora in the country.

Mariam Osman, Director of the Centre, said that despite the tragic loss, the family found time to bring joy to the children at the Centre.

"Their visit is an example of sacrifice and compassion and shows their determination to serve humanity," she said, adding that Nazek was so impressed by the standard of services provided by the Centre that she has assured of continued association with it in future.
