Pecker is a key witness in the case against the former US president, who is accused of falsifying business records to cover up hush-money payment
Answering a question addressed by Emirates News Agency (WAM ) during a press conference today at NATO headquarters in Brussels on the concrete results achieved by the UAE’s participation in Afghanistan, Appathurai also said that the participation of UAE troops within ISAF affiliated with NATO in Afghanistan is very important and valuable for NATO member countries and has achieved positive results.
Being a Muslim country, the UAE has great credibility in dealing with the Afghan people and is highly respected there. Its participation in the reconstruction, education, provision of services, relief work and tasks of maintaining security and peace has made the country closer to the Afghans, and this is frankly what we need in the NATO, said Appathurai.
He said that the contribution of the UAE along with NATO, have made it share with the Afghan people the same values stipulated by the Islamic religion and not as claimed by the Taliban as an Islamic movement working for Islam.
He added that the UAE’s participation in Afghanistan is the biggest proof of the country’s keenness to disseminate the values of cooperation and tolerance through the real work in the field to alleviate the sufferings of the people, providing them with help in these difficult circumstances.
He expressed hope the rest of the region will share the same values and follow the example of the UAE to work for establishing the values of justice and give support for building an affluent society by combating poverty and underdevelopment that lead to extremism and terrorism.
For all these reasons, we highly appreciate and welcome the participation of the UAE that has given a tentative commitment. UAE has always maintained its commitment to the values of freedom, justice and equality derived from the spirit of true Islam, he added.
