He told Khaleej Times that the cooperation already exists between the ministry and the municipalities to inspect the accommodation.

“However, we did not receive any circular from them about the current campaign in Dubai.”

He stressed that the Ministry of Labour’s inspection’s visits to the firms in the country is non-stop work as per the directives of the leadershipto protect the workers’ rights.

Humaid bin Deemas, Acting General Manager of the Ministry of Labour, had earlier stressed on the necessity of providing suitable accommodation to the workers that must meet the standards set by the ministry.

The labour law has fixed standards to make the housing safe for the workers. The standards obligate the companies to provide clean accommodation with the safety and fire-fighting means.

Moreover, the law defines that the housing units should have exits in case of emergencies and fires. Regarding penalties, the ministry sends letters to the companies to abide by the standards and in case of repeating the violation, the ministry suspends processing of applications for work permits of the errant firms for three to six months.
