During DSS 2003, this highly-popular DSS attraction opened its doors to 317, 817 people, majority of them children, representing a 47 per cent increase over the same period in 2002, disclosed Saeed Al Nabouda, Chief Executive Officer, DSS, at a Press briefing following a tour of Modhesh Fun City's facilities on Wednesday.

DSS officials who were also present at the briefing included Ibrahim Saleh, Chief Operating Officer; Ibrahim Abdul Rahim, Event and Project Director; and Laila Suhail, Project Director.

Mr Al Nabouda revealed that the Fun City, which comprises 17 zones covering a 12,000-square metre area, represents a Dh8 million investment.

Construction cost totalled Dh3 million, while the remaining Dh5 million will be allocated for the overall operations of the Modhesh Fun City, he explained.

"We do not really view it (Dh8 million) as a cost but as an investment. Last year, we had invested Dh6 million on this Fun City. With an additional Dh2 million, we are offering better services and will unveil a wide array of events and zones focusing on edutainment," he told reporters at the venue.

The entrance tickets to the venue are Dh5 and Dh10 for kids and adults, respectively. "Given the minimal charges, we are not looking at covering the cost. Modhesh Fun City fulfils the childhood dream, and reflects the children's fantasies and imagination," he maintained.

The Modhesh Fun City will open daily during DSS from 10am to 10pm and Fridays from 3pm to 10pm. This year, the Fun City includes a zone for youngsters, as well as a quiet area dedicated to families. The Family Zone includes a stage area hosting a range of shows and a big television screening favourite programmes. Modhesh Fun City boasts of a new and different platter of events and activities at the Sports Zone, Entertainment Zone, Arts and Crafts Zone, E-Challenge Zone, Internet Zone, Lego Zone, and Modhesh Studio with Spacetoon characters.

Laila Suhail, Project Director, DSS, said: "This year, Modhesh Fun City takes care of the entire family through a general approach. We have added special activities for youngsters above the age of 15. We are also presenting new zones such as Spacetoon's Zomoruda Planet, where children can enjoy games and workshops that will be organised by the television channel."

One of the new zones is the Modhesh Children's Salon where rooms are dedicated to hair styling and cutting etc. Modhesh Tech Zone captures the best of network games, mini golf, Q-Bowling and play stations in addition to weekly competitions.
