The court had sentenced Maryam with 90 lashes to be followed by 13-month imprisonment after she was caught with Same Allah Khan, a Pakistani, in a questionable state.

Same, who confessed to committing adultery, was awarded 100 lashes and a year in jail. He was also awarded 80 lashes for drinking alcohol. The jail term will be followed with deportation.

The two were caught in a questionable state in an apartment. While Same confessed to committing adultery and consuming alcohol, Maryam denied the charges. And that caused the judge to repeal her punishment of stoning. So she was only awarded 90 lashes and 13 months in jail.

The verdict was issued by the consultant, Ahmad Al Azori, Head of Fujairah Shariah Court.
