Man suffers serious burns after car catches fire

SHARJAH - A 45-year-old Arab national suffered first degree burns as his four-wheel drive caught fire after swerving from the road and hitting an electric pole on Emirates Road near the Tasjeel Village for vehicle registration in Sharjah.

The victim was rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital. A source at the hospital told Khaleej Times that the victim is in a very serious condition and admitted in the ICU.

The police said they received a call from one of the motorists about the accident around 7am and immediately dispatched the Civil Defence, land rescue unit and Anjad teams. They had to break open the driver’s door to remove the man who was in a state of coma and had severe burns on the upper part of the body.

The electric pole also was burnt completely, causing power outage in the area.

The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) replaced the electric pole and restored power quickly, a SEWA official said.
