The suspect was arrested by Al Gharb police after he was caught by the husband of the woman and other residents of the building.
The sources at the Al Gharb police station said the accused had followed the victim as she was returning to her apartment after seeing off her son to the school around 7.30am.
The suspect barged into the flat as she opened the doors, closed the doors and tried to rape her. The husband of the woman was at home at the time and he heard his wife's screams. He caught the man with the help of other residents of the building and the watchman.
The residents beat him up and tied his hands until the police arrived. The police took him away.
The incident caused panic among residents of Al Yarmouk area as it was the second such case in three months.
The police source disclosed that the accused is being interrogated and he would be referred to the Public Prosecution later.
