The move comes after a large number of jellyfish were found washed ashore at the Jumeirah Open Beach on Saturday.
Though DM officials said this was not a serious problem, they advised beachgoers to avoid the stretches where the jellyfish, mostly dead, have been found.
The blue-colour jellyfish, lying scattered along the shores, are causing inconvenience to the beachgoers.
Mohammed Abdur Rahman Hasan, head of the Marine Environment and Sanctuary Unit at the Dubai Municipality, said this was not the first time when jellyfish had been washed ashore.
“This is not something unusual. People need not be worried or frightened. Unless there is a tide, the fish are not able to go back into the sea. A majority of them die as a result,” Hasan said.
Hasan pointed out that it was the job of the Horticulture Department of the Municipality to put nets into the sea so that the fish are not washed ashore.
“Most of the varieties of jellyfish are not harmful. But there are some that can be dangerous or deadly. There have been instances of people getting seriously injured after being stung by certain species of jellyfish. On occasions, jellyfish bite has led to death also,” Hasan cautioned.
