It will last until November 15.

The conference enjoys the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

MEITSEC 2007, organised by Sharjah and Etisalat, will bring under the spotlight the law-enforcement agencies’ role in fighting cyber-terrorism.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Brig. Hussain Al Ghazal, Deputy Director of Planning and Development Division in Sharjah Police, said the conference is bringing together IT professionals, policy-makers, investigators, security experts, industry leaders and scientists.

They will share information and exchanging ideas on critical issues, such as identity theft, hacking, e-forensics, secure online services, perimeter defence, digital espionage, encryption, cyber crime and many other topics related to information security.

The event is also being considered an opportunity for the Sharjah Police staff to learn about cyber crimes in order to enable them to deal with it in the future.

According to Brig. Al Ghazal, about 600 experts from various parts of the world will be attending the conference, during which around 30 workshops will be organised.

Three of the workshops will feature IT experts from Sharjah Police who will highlight the experiences and achievements in dealing with such crimes.

Among the main topics to be discussed in the conference are information security compliance, wireless network security, computer forensic case studies, and building an identity-centric web services security.
