A young resident suffered multiple fractures while skateboarding on the Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the country. The Air Wing Department of the Ministry of Interior rescued the victim on Sunday.
The department was alerted about the injured skateboarder at 11.40am. Col Marshal Salem Khalifa Salem Al Suwaidi, deputy director of the air wing department, said: "Fully equipped medical and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the site where they provided all possible medical assistance, and then airlifted the young man to the Shaikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital."
He urged sports lovers to be more cautious in such dangerous areas, particularly on the mountains, cliffs and steep curves. "Due protective clothes must be dressed up whereas risky and remote spots are not advised."
Keeping a valid telecommunication device for emergency cases is also important. "Such critical tools are life-saving, mainly for those interested in camping at remote areas or practicing dangerous sports."
